Note: In the following article, WS_FTP LE was used. Depending upon which version of WS_FTP you are using, the steps may vary.

To publish your Web page using WS_FTP, perform the following steps:

Note: This article assumes that you have already downloaded and installed a version of WS_FTP. For information about downloading and installing WS_FTP LE, go to How do I download and install WS_FTP LE?

Step one: From the Start menu, select Programs, select WS_FTP, click WS_FTP95 LE.

Step two: In the Session Properties window, from the General tab, click New.

Step three: Enter a generic Profile Name (e.g., My Web Site), Host Name/Address (e.g. your-domain.com or your account IP address, e.g., 10.110.110.10), Control Panel User ID, and Control Panel Password. Click to select Save Pwd.

Note: We recommend leaving Host Type at the default value, Automatic detect. In Advanced settings, Passive Transfers should be selected.

Step four: Click OK.

Step five: From the Local System box, navigate to the directory that contains the file you want to transfer.

  • Use the Local System drop-down menu to change directories by either clicking the drop-down arrow or entering the desired directory in the box.
  • Double-click the green arrow to browse up a directory.
  • Double-click a folder icon to browse down a directory.
  • Double-click a drive icon to browse to the root directory of that drive. Example: [-a-].

Note: In this example, the directory is located on C:\My Web Site.

Step six: From the Local System scroll box, click the file you want to transfer, then click the desired mode.

  • Use ASCII to transfer text files, HTML files, and CGI scripts.
  • Use Binary to transfer programs, images, audio files, and text processing files.
  • Auto permits WS_FTP to detect and use the proper transfer setting for each particular file.

Note: In this example, index.html is selected.

Step seven: From the Remote Site box, navigate to the directory to which you want to transfer the file.

Note: For example, to publish your home page, navigate to the root (default) directory.

Step eight: Click the transfer arrow.
