Summary: This article describes the changes necessary to send mail when your ISP has closed port 25.
When your Internet Service Provider transmits email messages originating from an account hosted by us, your provider may now require that all outgoing mail (SMTP) is routed through Port 587, rather than the default Port 25. This article describes how to change your port from 25 to 587.
Note: Configuration of your POP email account has not changed.
Configuring email settings may be different from program to program, but all email programs require the same basic pieces of information. For more information about configuring specific email programs, go to How do I configure my E-mail program?
In the following example, Microsoft Outlook 2003 is used. Depending on the email client you are using, the examples may look different.
Modifying an existing email account for SMTP:
Once you've configured your email account in an email program, access the settings for that account and make the necessary changes. This will enable you to send email through your AOL connection.

The Internet Accounts window appears.
The E-mail Accounts window appears.

The Internet E-mail Settings window for your email account appears.

The General Internet E-mail Settings appear.

The Advanced Properties window appears.

You must be authenticated before you can send a message through our SMTP server. Check for new email in your POP account and you will be authenticated for thirty minutes. Afterwards, if you set your email program to check for email every 20 minutes, authentication will not expire until you have closed your email program. Finally, if you change your port to 587 and your mail still does not work, contact your ISP for the proper port for SMTP mail.
